Ordering Your Time: Making Room for What Matters

Anchor Scripture

Ephesians 5:15–16 (NKJV)

“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”

Opening Thought

Time is an equalizer—everyone receives the same twenty-four hours each day. Yet, many people live in a state of perpetual rush, mistaking activity for achievement and busyness for fruitfulness. Being busy does not automatically mean you are being productive, nor does it guarantee that you are fulfilling God’s purpose for your life. Without intentional stewardship, your hours will easily be consumed by trivialities, urgent interruptions, and the demands of others.

To order your time means moving from reactive living to deliberate allocation. It is the conscious decision to carve out dedicated space for what truly matters—your relationship with God, family responsibilities, personal health, skill development, and kingdom calling. When you redeem your time by aligning your daily calendar with divine priorities, hurry gives way to quiet focus, and exhaustion is replaced by purposeful progress.

Reflection

In Psalm 90:12, Moses prayed, "So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." Numbering your days is not about counting time, but making your time count. Wisdom begins when you recognize that time is a finite resource entrusted to you by God for stewardship.

Ordering your time effectively requires practicing three intentional shifts:

  • Distinguishing Urgent vs. Important: Urgent tasks demand immediate attention, but important tasks build long-term destiny. Never let minor, loud distractions push aside quiet, high-priority responsibilities.

  • Mastering the Power of 'No': You cannot say a meaningful 'Yes' to God’s assignment if you cannot say 'No' to non-essential commitments that clutter your schedule.

  • Creating Time Blocks for Purpose: Designate fixed, uninterrupted windows in your day for deep work, spiritual devotion, family connection, and rest rather than leaving them to chance.

When you bring order to your time, you stop reacting to life and start leading your day with divine wisdom.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You are the Lord of time and eternity. Forgive me for the hours I have squandered on distraction, procrastination, and unaligned busyness. Teach me to number my days and grant me the wisdom to manage my time intentionally. Help me set firm boundaries around my day, discern what is truly important, and eliminate trivial noise. May my daily schedule reflect Your priorities, and may every hour be used to bring glory to Your name, in Jesus' name, Amen.

Declarations

  • I am a wise and faithful steward of the time God has entrusted to me.

  • I master my schedule; I do not allow busyness and distraction to dictate my life.

  • I discern between the urgent and the important, focusing my energy on eternal priorities.

  • My daily hours are ordered by divine wisdom, producing peace, fruitfulness, and impact.

Spirit Challenge

Conduct a time audit today. Review how you spent your time over the last 24 hours. Identify one non-essential activity that drained at least 30–60 minutes of your energy (e.g., aimless browsing, unconstructive banter, or unproductive TV). Block out that exact time slot on your schedule tomorrow for a high-priority task, family connection, or focused skill study.

Closing Exhortation

Do not let life just happen to you. Take command of your daily calendar, make room for what truly matters, and redeem your time for maximum purpose.

The Order of Worship and Devotion
Establishing holy order in your worship and devotion means building non-negotiable spiritual altars. Just as the priests in the Old Testament maintained regular morning and evening sacrifices, a well-ordered life maintains steady rhythms of prayer, scripture study, thanksgiving, and fellowship. When your spiritual practices are disciplined and consistent, your inner life remains deeply anchored, allowing God's presence and wisdom to flow seamlessly into everything you build....
